MEDICAL DIRECTOR

Job Title: Medical Director

Reports to: Executive Director

Classification: Exempt

Supervises: ARNP, RN, MA and Health Educator

Role: Provides specialized and advanced direct and indirect medical care to clients of all ages, newborn to elderly. Oversees the medical aspects of clinic operations and is accessible for emergency problems which might occur.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides direct medical care to clients of all ages, prescribes and dispenses medications.
  • Provides supervision of Family Nurse Practitioner and maintains a collaborative working relationship.
  • Assists Executive Director in developing and implementing risk management programs, Process Improvement Plan, and customer service programs.
  • Oversees the development and implementation of medical quality standards.
  • Ability to organize and analyze information and direct the problem solving processes.
  • Responsible for the investigation of client complaints and handles unresolved issues.
  • Fosters positive relationships with the community through involvement in community activities, functions, committees, etc.
  • Participates in meeting community’s local needs for health education
  • Provides input into budgeting process and ensures medical staff compliance with budget and productivity standards.
  • Uses all available resources for diagnosis and treatment in an appropriate and cost efficient manner.
  • Additional responsibilities may include hospital rounds and on call coverage.
  • Participates in professional organizations at state, regional, and national levels.
  • Attends educational activities to maintain and grow in managerial and clinical skills / competency
  • Completes all other assigned projects and duties.

Experience: Previous experience in leadership / management role preferred.

Education: Medical Degree with additional management training; business or Healthcare Administrative Degree desirable.

Requirements: Valid MD license.

Environmental/Working Conditions:

Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a medical environment.

Physical/Mental Requirements:

Varied activities including standing, walking, reaching, bending, lifting. Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting clients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. Requires working under stressful conditions and working irregular hours.

Interpersonal Skills:

Ability to work effectively with physician and non-physician staff at organizational levels. Positive customer relations skills. Communicates effectively at all organizational levels. Able to function in a leadership role and take initiative when necessary. Models teamwork and dedication to improving client care and service as well as the overall operation of the Clinic. Ability to organize and analyze information and direct the problem solving processes. Bilingual (English-Spanish) desirable.

Other Skills:

Using/operating medical equipment as appropriate. Use of computer, printer, office equipment and keyboarding skills. Use and operate a wide variety of diagnostic and medical equipment. Use personal protection safety equipment including gloves, lab coats, gowns, goggles and face masks/shields.
